8 April 2011

Large quantities of unlicensed medicines have actually been taken by Department of Health officials during a search of a house in Glengormley.

A guy was interviewed by department officers about illegally importing and consequently providing unlicensed impotence medications by means of the web.

The 47-year-old was also questioned about other medication offenses.

He will now be the subject of a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

The search was performed by the department's Medicines Regulatory Group.

Its senior enforcement office, Peter Moore, said: "It is vital that we get the message throughout that unlicensed medicines can be hazardous.

"These kinds of items being sold, online, have actually gone through no quality assurance and there can be no guarantee about their security.

"You simply do not understand what you are taking or the conditions these items were made in. More importantly, you do not understand the impact drugs like this may have on your health."
